The fringe support as just an open source alternative, is too fragmented and very distasteful as a whole, when you are talking organized companies basing thier livelihood on a platform. Steam is directly responsible for mainstream interest in Linux for gaming in a lot of ways. I always skip to the end of chains and often don't supply middle thoughts hoping others get it. I think you answered you own question to some extent. But right now, I don't see how using the Steam controller makes the eventual success of that plan more likely rather than less likely.

I mean, if you were just talking about releasing it on Steam, with multiplatform support, with the Steam APIs for cloud saves and such, that would make sense to me, because it contributes towards building up a library of games that do not require Windows to play - you can play 'em on a SteamBox or a homebrew Linux box with Steam installed or even a Mac with Steam installed. I just don't at all see how the chain of events that happened here helps work towards "a true alternative to Windows for PC gaming". I'm sorry, maybe I'm being dense, but I can't make sense of this.Īll the games that I have that work with Xinput on Windows, and that have Linux versions, also in my testing work with a wired Xbox360 gamepad plugged into a Linux box via USB. If we are ever going to have a true alternative to Windows for PC gaming, this is probably one of our best and only near term shots at making it happen. The reason I didn't get annoyed as I should have, is the bigger picture.
Xcom 2 pc controller support not working Patch#
I personally think there will be a patch very soon that enables full support. The Work-around: I use Joy2Key and perform a few simple mappings: (my own preferences of course)ġ - Bind the Left stick to Mouse movement (4 mouse directions, sensitivity of 20)Ģ - Bind the Right stick to the 4 arrow keys (Can't use the dpad for this as it already has in-game functions)ĭone, those simple bindings gets your Xbox controller to be about 98% compatible with the game. And some dialogs dont accept button presses, so mouse is the only way to interact. Using the dpad, most of the menus are functional, however the actions the buttons performs are inconsistent and seem to change, depending on the dialog. In Avenger(strategy) mode: This is where they really need to work on support. Unfortunately, the analog sticks do nothing, which makes it unusable. 90% of the time it is the same action as EU/EW.

In battle: All the buttons on the controller already perform an action. My guess is that they just couldn't finish it on time. From my experience, I would call default controller support about 80% complete. Thought I'd post some helpful FYI for those who are interested.įirst my thoughts: I suspect the reason the 'SC-only' announcement came so late is because they probably originally intended to have full support. Played Xcom2 all weekend using my Xbox controller on my Windows PC, through Steam.
